Smart Brain was founded in mid-1996 by Saward Mitaree in Thailand. The Smart Brain programme is viewed as such a powerful tool in Thailand that over 60% of the school system have adapted this programme directly into their core curriculum. Saward leads the management team with significant contribution from Patrick Lee who is based in Singapore. Patrick spearheads the R& D component of the franchise programme and implementation of stringent quality assessment of all the franchisees. It is their vision to spread Smart Brain method of after-school mental maths teaching to children around the world at affordable prices to complement school lessons and home tutoring.

They based their system on soroban teaching, a method also used in some schools in Malaysia and Singapore with proven results. They felt they could bring even more to this method by making the use of the soroban unnecessary altogether. They developed a method where the student is gradually taught to visualise the soroban, thereby being capable of completing mathematical problems using the principles of the tool, without the use of any apparatus.

The number of franchises found in countries around the world is testimony to the success of this method. Today, it is taught to more than 250,000 students every week at various locations across Thailand, Singapore, the United States, Canada, India, Qatar, Kuwait, U.A.E., Bahrain, Oman and now the UK.

All of our centres are manned by qualified instructors and friendly staff. During the first year, children use the soroban to solve simple mathematical problems. This ancient tool has continually proven faster and more accurate than any other calculation method.

As the teaching progresses, children learn to do complex maths mentally. Our successful step by step guidance and motivated teaching effectively activates the minds of children of all levels of ability.
